Mission?

Not sure what this has to do with RW's mission in any case, unless the show is promoting automotive woo. From the description it sounds like the show's only sins are it promotes fast driving and big cars, which aren't woo, and a faked stunt. Seems this and the Hummer article created yesterday are more examples of RW mission creep in the service of the extreme left, in this case their campaign against cars. If anything it specifically goes against "automotive woo" because it does a lot of testing. It gets a lot of controversy because of the environmental impact of cars and because Clarkson lets his mouth go on everything from politics to the environment. It's more on mission than it might appear. I've specifically kept it to mentioning the things that are on mission rather than going into things such as the identity of the Stig or the US special. Actually, scratch that, I'm putting a mention of the US special in, I think it's the reason that it was mentioned on a talk page and made into a red lin in the first place. Top Gear is probably one of those love/hate things. I used to watch it as it was the only thing worth watching on TV at 8 on a Sunday, but it's become so boring and formulaic and now can't stand it. I'd rather spend good money going to the cinema than stay in and watch Top Gear.

The presenters spend their time trying to be more outspoken than one another, the "challenges" are all blatantly set up, and any controversy is gleefully promoted by the BBC in the knowledge that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

I'm not sure if it's on mission for RW or not. To me, it feels like the whole programme is woo, though. Might as well keep the article, unless RW storage space is getting so low that we need a few bytes more. Bondurant 12:22, 19 March 2009 (EDT)

Mission, reposed

While this topic was raised about 18 months ago, I'm bringing it up again. Since Doctor Who is to be redirected to the BBC page, as a section of that... now would be as good a time as any to also redirect this page. While this article is more in depth than the Doctor Who article, and people have made arguements above which are valid.... Based on the fact that, IMHO, it's overhyped in the media and has often been criticised by environmentalists, it's related quite directly. The original reason behind it was because of the gun-nut aspects of the US special, which was raised in the SB. ^bomination 01:10, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Faked Car Problem?

I don't know if this would go under the "Faking Things" section or get its own - there was some controversy when testing a Tesla car (all electric) against another vehicle. They showed the Tesla slowing down and then giving out, and needing to be pushed back to the garage. Tesla alledged that this was scripted, and they sued Top Gear. Considering the "electric cars suck" message, I'd be tempted to put it under the environmental stuff rather than fakery. I'll look it up and see what the craic about it is. ^bomination 19:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Move to Jeremy Clarkson

This article is predominantly about Jeremy Clarkson who left Top Gear in 2015. There's been several presenting teams since then who aren't mentioned. Since much of Jeremy Clarkson's non-trivial commentary is from a long and continuing career in journalism including after Top Gear, perhaps moving/renaming the article to Jeremy Clarkson would be simpler than rewriting.--Darrelljon (talk) 20:46, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
